怎么回事

CeBIT ran for 33 years in Hannover as the world's largest computer and IT trade fair, drawing about 850,000 visitors at the height of the dot-com boom. Its organiser, Deutsche Messe, moved the show to June in 2018 to revive it, with roughly 2,800 exhibiting companies.

The revival failed. Attendance had declined, booth sales for 2019 stayed sluggish, and technology had split into vertical fairs that served manufacturers and digital industries better than one horizontal tent. On 28 November 2018 Deutsche Messe announced CeBIT's cancellation.

The show's industrial topics were folded into Hannover Messe under an Industry 4.0 banner, while remaining digital topics were studied for new vertical events; the CeBIT name survived only in licensed shows in Russia, Australia and Thailand. The fair that once defined Europe's tech calendar ended not with a crash but with an empty booth plan.

为什么会这样

  • The horizontal fair lost its job: exhibitors migrated to specialised shows where their buyers already were.
  • The brand could not reverse the trend: even a June relaunch drew declining attendance and sluggish 2019 bookings.
  • The organiser cut before the floor emptied: Deutsche Messe chose cancellation over running a visibly shrinking 34th edition.

教训

CeBIT peaked at 850,000 visitors and fell to verticalisation: once buyers split into specialised shows, no brand could hold the big tent together.

后来呢

Hannover Messe absorbed the industrial themes; the CeBIT brand survives only in licensed editions abroad. The cancellation is cited whenever a horizontal trade show loses its anchor exhibitors.
