NET spent 6 years building an online-only budget brand — then folded it back in

NET launched online-only budget label NU V in 2020 to compete on price without stores — then shut it down in 2026 and merged it back into NET.

What happened

NET, one of Taiwan's largest fast-fashion chains, launched NU V in 2020 as a separate, store-free e-commerce brand: no physical retail overhead, budget pricing, clothes sold for under NT$100. It built a following as a 'treasure hunting' destination for price-conscious shoppers, including parents buying for children.

Six years later, NET announced NU V would shut down. Last orders closed March 19, 2026, the site went dark May 1, and remaining stock and customers were folded back into NET's own retail and e-commerce channels. NET described the move only as an 'operational strategy adjustment,' without disclosing sales figures or a specific cause.

The closure means NET is giving up the separate discount-brand structure it built specifically to sell cheaper without touching its own store-based pricing — after six years, the company decided one brand serving both jobs was better than two.

Why it happened

  • Running a discount-only sibling brand alongside a full-price retail chain risks the sibling cannibalizing the parent's own price-sensitive customers rather than reaching new ones
  • A brand built entirely around 'no physical stores, lowest price' has no separate identity to fall back on once the parent decides to fold the pricing strategy back into its main channels
  • Six years without disclosed profitability or sales figures suggests the online-only structure never proved itself enough to justify keeping it separate

The lesson

A discount sub-brand built to avoid touching the parent's pricing can end up just splitting the same customers — without a case for staying separate, the simplest fix is folding it back in.
