What happened
Missy Empire is a Manchester-based fast-fashion womenswear retailer, trading as UggBugg Fashion Ltd (company number 08918157). In its most recent accounts the business reported more than £12 million in revenue, reflecting a sizeable online-first fast-fashion operation built on low prices and rapid trend turnover.
On 28 July 2025 James (Jimmy) Saunders and Mark Blackman of KR8 Advisory Ltd were appointed joint administrators of UggBugg Fashion Ltd, with the official notice published in The Gazette. The company's assets and brand were initially put up for sale as the administrators sought to preserve value.
A short time after the appointment, KR8 Advisory announced it had secured the future of Missy Empire, completing a going-concern sale of the brand and assets. The missyempire.com website remained live with the brand continuing to sell. The swift sale meant the company was rescued rather than wound down, though the administration itself reflected the financial strain on a fast-fashion label squeezed by costs and competition.
Why it happened
- A fast-fashion retailer with over £12m revenue could no longer service its liabilities and was placed into administration
- Rapid trend turnover and low pricing leave thin margins that amplify any rise in costs or fall in demand
- The business was sold as a going concern rather than rescued in place, signalling the original owners could not continue funding it
The lesson
Revenue is not resilience — a fast-fashion brand can turn over £12m and still be placed into administration when its liabilities and margins no longer line up
Aftermath
UggBugg Fashion Ltd, trading as Missy Empire, entered administration on 28 July 2025 with James Saunders and Mark Blackman of KR8 Advisory appointed as joint administrators. The brand and assets were sold as a going concern shortly afterwards, with KR8 confirming the future of Missy Empire was secured and the missyempire.com site continuing to trade.
