Coaticook's white cheddar: a Listeria recall across every cut
Listeria monocytogenes pulled every white-cheddar SKU — curds to 2 kg blocks — off Quebec shelves on Aug 3, 2026. No reported illness; throw out or return.

What happened
Laiterie de Coaticook recalled its Coaticook-brand white cheddar cheeses on August 3, 2026 — mild cheddar curds in every size and flavour, Carrousel curds, and white cheddar blocks up to 2.27 kg — after Listeria monocytogenes was detected.
The recall covers the dairy's whole white-cheddar line as sold in Quebec; no reported illness was linked to the products. Owners were told not to consume, serve or distribute them — throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.
A regional dairy's signature product line withdrawn in one notice — the contamination did not pick a SKU.
Why it happened
- Listeria monocytogenes detected — the entire white-cheddar line recalled across Quebec, Aug 3, 2026; no reported illness
- Every cut and flavour falls — curds, blocks, dill to hickory — because the pathogen contaminates the line, not the label
- The recall is a regional creamery withdrawing its signature line — the trust is the asset at stake
The lesson
Listeria does not recall a batch, it recalls a surface — every SKU that touched the line goes with it. A dairy's range is only as clean as its worst corner.
