Cederins Guld ran a high-street goldsmith shop for 71 years — then stopped filing accounts

A family goldsmith shop in Örebro since the 1950s fell behind on its annual reports — Bolagsverket forced liquidation, and it went bankrupt in December 2024.

What happened

Cederins Guld Aktiebolag was a family-owned goldsmith shop in Örebro, Sweden, trading on Köpmangatan since the 1950s. The company traced its history to N.L. Dahlström AB, founded in 1953, giving the shop 71 years of continuous operation before its end.

The family behind the business said they 'couldn't make the economics work' — a small high-street goldsmith shop could no longer carry its costs. At the same time the company fell behind on filing its statutory annual reports. In autumn 2024 the Swedish Companies Registration Office (Bolagsverket) ordered the company into liquidation for the missing filings.

On 27 December 2024, the Örebro district court (tingsrätt) declared Cederins Guld Aktiebolag bankrupt after a bankruptcy application, with Hans Berglund appointed trustee. The shop's operations were not continued, and the three employees lost their jobs.

The bankruptcy was not caused by a single dramatic event but by the slow economics of a small-town jewellery shop combined with a failure of corporate hygiene — when the accounts stopped being filed, the state removed the company's right to keep trading.

Why it happened

  • The economics of a small high-street goldsmith shop no longer worked — the family could not make the numbers balance.
  • The company fell behind on its statutory annual reports, which gave Bolagsverket the ground to order liquidation in autumn 2024.
  • No buyer or continuation plan emerged once the liquidation order landed — the shop's value had already faded.
  • A 71-year heritage did not protect the business: goodwill without a working profit model is not enough to keep a shop open.

The lesson

A long history is not a business. Cederins Guld traded for 71 years, but when the economics stopped working, even the filings stopped — and the state finished what the market had started.

Aftermath

The Örebro district court declared the company bankrupt on 27 December 2024 and Hans Berglund was appointed trustee. Operations were not continued.
