Brooklyn, Nürnberg's first streetwear store, closes after 32 years at Hallplatz

Brooklyn opened in September 1994 on Königstraße — 150 square metres of caps, hoodies, sneakers and basketball culture, one of the first stores in Nürnberg to specialize in urban fashion. In 2003 it moved to Hallplatz, eventually growing to 700 square metres of sales floor, carrying Nike, Air Jordan, adidas, New Era and Vans, and running an online shop since 2007. For 32 years it was the address the city's streetwear scene grew up around.

The ground moved underneath it. The store itself put the reason plainly: especially since the pandemic, the shift toward online shopping had become unmistakable. A 700-square-metre inner-city floor needs bodies through the door, and the bodies were ordering from their phones.

In late June 2026 the team announced the end: a final sale at 50 per cent off, with the doors closing for good on July 31, 2026 — and the online shop shutting with them, so nothing of the name survives in either world. Even the shop fittings went up for sale. The landlord, the city of Nürnberg, began looking for a new tenant for the Hallplatz space.
