怎么回事
On 25 February 2026 Deliveroo announced it would cease operations in Singapore, with its platform going offline after 4 March. It was an 11-year run: Deliveroo entered the market in November 2015.
The exit was part of a broader review of parent DoorDash's international portfolio, which also wound down food delivery in Qatar, Japan and Uzbekistan. The stated reason was a focus on markets where the company saw 'the clearest path to sustainable scale and long-term leadership'.
DoorDash bought Deliveroo in May 2025 for US$3.85 billion, and the Singapore withdrawal was one of the first visible consequences of its portfolio rationalisation.
The announcement landed with little warning for the riders, restaurants and users who relied on the platform, leaving them to switch to competitors or absorb the loss of a channel.
为什么会这样
- DoorDash, after acquiring Deliveroo, reviewed its international portfolio market by market and concluded Singapore did not offer a clear path to sustainable scale and leadership.
- A small, competitive city with multiple entrenched delivery apps means the cost of winning density is high and the long-term margin case is weak.
- Concentrating investment in fewer, larger markets is cheaper than defending a long tail of small ones, so a peripheral market was the natural first cut.
- The decision was made at parent level around portfolio economics, ahead of any local operational failure, so it hit the market with almost no advance notice.
教训
A platform entering a market on subsidy has to reach density before the parent's portfolio review, or the parent will cut it as a long tail cost — the market's fate is decided above its own numbers.
